Gary Gray

gary gray sGary is an experienced management consultant and interim manager providing strategic direction, programme management and organisational development to both commercial and non-profit organisations.

Much of Gary’s career has been spent in consultancy activities, with a large part of this taking place within British Airways. He was Head of Business consulting, responsible for a team of senior management consultants supporting the major change initiatives throughout the company that were precipitated by the privatisation process. One of his major contributions was establishing an initiative that delivered £1 billion cost savings within a three year period, which enabled the company to emerge from the first Gulf War in a financially strong position.

Leaving British Airways, Gary set up his own consultancy practice where he carried out a wide range of strategic development programme and project management, organisation development and training assignments. These included project managing the development of a three year strategy for Gulf Air, working directly for the President and Chief Executive. During this period Gary acted as Operations Director during the incapacity of the incumbent. Other aviation assignments included the role of Programme Director in the Speedwing team tasked with the restructurng of Olympic Airways, and the project management for SITA of the cut-over and implementation of their wordwide Y2K compliant and operationally critical airport baggage messaging system.

Gary has also completed a wide range of non-aviation assignments. He implemented a combined performance appraisal system as part of the merger process in Glaxo Smith Kline. On behalf of the Trustees of the Royal Merchant Navy School Foundation, he facilitated a major decision affecting the future of the school and he has developed strategies and action programmes for the Royal British Legion and the Royal Geographical Society.

Gary is a guest lecturer on the City University MSc in Air Transport Management, specialising on airline recovery strategies and business planning.
