David was General Manager of International Relations at British Airways plc. until April 2006. He has since worked as Aviation Advisor to the Commonwealth Business Council and Government Affairs Manager at MK Airlines Ltd. He recently worked on the revision of the Hong Kong airline licensing rules for the Hong Kong Air Transport Licensing Authority, and is consulted by the Hong Kong authorities on individual licence applications.
David was BA’s representative to the EU based in Brussels between 1997 and 2002. During this time he was Chair of the Public Policy Committee of the Association of European Airlines which dealt with all matters of EU policy on aviation including the development and application of the Public Purchasing Directive.
His career has given him a thorough practical knowledge of the economic and commercial realities of the air transport industry, and has involved relations with governments and regulators in a large number of countries around the world, including airlines, Civil Aviation Ministries, and Departments of Foreign Affairs, as well as very close working relationships with CAA and the Department for Transport in the UK.
David is an airline professional, having worked for half his career at British Caledonian Airways where he occupied senior positions in fleet planning, marketing, and government relations.
Educated at Magdalen College, Oxford (MA in Modern Languages), and The University of Strathclyde (Master of Business Administration).
David is fluent in both spoken and written French and German, and to a lesser degree, Portuguese, Russian and Italian.
