The Directors of MSP Solutions Ltd.
Laurence Heath is a widely experienced senior manager and consultant with over 34 years' experience of aviation in airlines, both in managerial roles and in consulting. His specialist and general management experience in the airline industry gives him a thorough understanding of the key issues facing the industry and its future development.
This knowledge and experience has allowed him to develop practical solutions to problems in both airlines and other transport industries. He has consulted for 10 years that this has enabled him to apply his airline experience to the benefit of a wide range of aviation clients around the world. Laurence's specialist knowledge is in route economics, strategy, pricing and the preparation of business plans for new and established airlines.
After completing his university degree at Cambridge, Laurence joined British Airways in 1969 where he held a variety of progressively more senior management positions at head office. His career in British Airways began in fleet planning and he subsequently held a number of management posts responsible for planning, pricing and business development. He developed significant expertise in pricing (tariffs setting and agreements) and yield management.
He also gained particular expertise in route development. In particular he produced the strategic plan for the Australasia region where BA was under intense competition from Qantas, Air New Zealand and the Asian carriers (Singapore Airlines, Malaysian, Thai Airways and Cathay Pacific). This led to the introduction of one-stop services between London and Australia ( Sydney, Melbourne and Perth ) that resulted in the acquisition of Boeing 747-400 aircraft, and the introduction of the dramatically improved Club World business-class cabin.
In 1994 Laurence left BA and started a career in airline consultancy where he worked on a freelance basis through his own consultancy company Business Strategy Centre and also with BA's subsidiary Speedwing Consulting. Here he worked on assignments for a large number of airlines worldwide particularly in Asia , the Middle East and Africa. This work included established airlines and some new start-up carriers. He also worked in the rail industry and for the EU Commission where his specialist market research and pricing knowledge was particularly relevant to resolving key issues.
In addition to his commercial consulting experience, Laurence has established a close relationship with Cranfield University where he has completed some further academic work and given a number of lectures. He has also lectured for the Royal Aeronautical Society and regularly chairs meetings at IATA.
In 2000 Laurence was appointed Manager Pricing Strategy Swissair where he developed initiatives to combat the impact of low-cost carriers. He survived the Swissair bankruptcy and was appointed to its successor Swiss International where he continued to work in the role until December 2003.
His airline management experience in planning, pricing, negotiation and systems development at British Airways and subsequently at Swiss International provides the basis for his wide-ranging consultancy brief.
